Conservation
Trees and bamboo planted today will shade the river, stabilise the bank, and provide habitat for the next century. Our reforestation program is a long-term commitment to the health of the Meghauli landscape.
Our bamboo nursery at the lodge produces several hundred bamboo culms per year for replanting along the Rapti riverbank and in degraded buffer zone areas. Bamboo is ideal for riparian restoration — its root system is exceptional at preventing bank erosion and its rapid growth quickly provides habitat.
We also work with local community forest user groups to identify and plant native tree species in degraded corridor areas. These green corridors allow wildlife to move safely between the national park and surrounding landscape.
Volunteer guests can participate in nursery work and planting days. See our volunteer programs for details.
