Sustainability
The most powerful economic tool an eco-lodge has is its purchasing power. We deliberately source from local suppliers, employ local people, and buy local crafts — keeping the economic benefits of tourism in Meghauli.
Rice, vegetables, herbs, fish, and dairy all sourced from local Meghauli farmers and markets. What we grow in our own organic garden supplements the rest. The food miles are minimal.
Handmade Tharu crafts — woven baskets, pottery, textiles — sold from the lodge are sourced directly from local artisans. Every purchase goes directly to the maker.
100% of our staff are from Meghauli and surrounding villages. We do not bring in managers or experts from Kathmandu when local talent is available and can be trained.
Building, repairs, and maintenance work is contracted to local tradespeople using locally sourced materials wherever possible. The lodge is built by the community.
When tourism money circulates locally rather than leaking to distant supply chains, communities develop a real stake in the success and sustainability of the tourism industry — and in the wildlife that makes it possible.
